Making of a musician

In my previous blog, I had talked about some ingredients of a performing artiste. The most essential and key contributor is LUCK. It is not a quality someone can work on, so I had not elaborated on it. But, to dwell on few things we could indeed affect..........

To be in the right place with the right skills at the right time is called Lady Luck and everyone needs her company. Right place translates to a lot of things. Right set of people at home and also in one's social circle of family friends, relatives and one's own age group of friends. This is a highly influencing circle in one's life and hence makes all the difference. Malcolm Gladwell notes this in his Outliers. Indian society, in general, is very mediocre and not very motivational. From the Billion, we could hand pick outstanding contributors. Why should that be the case? Why can't we all evolve beautifully? Few cents from me (not the entire dollar, you see) -
    - One should be very careful and choosy to surround oneself with encouraging folks.
   - YOU take your time seriously so others take it serious too.
   - Pursue only relevant thoughts and efforts, even when you are relaxing and resting.

One's social circle also should strive their bit to get the musician enough opportunities. They do their bit
   - by giving him the time and space to pursue his goal
  - by hunting for those specific chance-of-life stage or acquaintance with a Maestro (or a Sabha secretary).
The above two points can be put in essence - Help constructively in the making of the musician

To be financially supported during a musician's early and budding stage is important as well. Someone has to feed his stomach while he is practicing the art. Kamban's "சிறிது  செவிக்கு இல்லாத பொழுது ........" may work for a concert listener but not the young fellow straining his throat or fingers.

With these points, it sounds like music is not for the common man. These and many more are required for a person to be successful in any field. To pursue any art form as a career requires more support and healthy involvement from near and dear. That is the highlight.

Families,
If you have a budding musician, please encourage and go out of your way to bring him to the dais.
